Public Policy Committee
Recognizing that NWPC doesn’t just elect women for the purpose of equitable representation but also to influence public policy in ways that improve the lives of women and families, NWPC California has a statewide committee to inform its own members and influence legislators.
The NWPC-CA Public Policy Committee, representing all the state’s chapters, reviews proposed legislation, especially bills sponsored by the Legislative Women’s Caucus, the Stronger California Coalition, and the CA Commission on the Status of Women and Girls. The committee recommends positions to the State Board and, upon their agreement, works with our membership to muster support for our positions. The committee uses email alerts, social media, and other means to engage members in pushing for policies advanced by the strong women NWPC-CA helps elect to public office.
The Committee also sponsors issue forums three or four times a year to explore key women’s policy issues in greater depth both to educate NWPC members and to hear from the women making that policy.
Local caucuses are encouraged to develop public policy committees or task forces of their own to participate at the state level. Women’s issues are relevant in local as well as state and national government, and local advocacy can often have a strong impact on improving the lives of women in our own communities.
