The National Women's Political Caucus is a multi-cultural, intergenerational, and multi-issue grassroots organization dedicated to increasing women's participation in the political process and creating a true women's political power base to achieve equality for all women.
Founded in 1973, the National Women’s Political Caucus of California (NWPC CA) is one of the longest-standing, grassroots organizations that recruits, trains and supports pro-choice women candidates who support our “bottom line issues” for elected and appointed offices at all levels of government regardless of party affiliation.
In addition to financial donations, the Caucus offers campaign training for candidates and campaign managers, as well as technical assistance and advice through our network of 11 local member chapters across California, including Sacramento, Silicon Valley, Fresno, San Fernando Valley, LA Westside, South Bay, LA Metro, San Gabriel Valley, Greater Pasadena Area, Orange County, Pomona/Inland Empire and San Diego.
NWPC IN CALIFORNIA: ITS BEGINNINGS, THE FIRST DECADE:
The earliest mention of a San Fernando Group is on October 2, 1971 when 400 women met in Los Angeles for the initialing committee for Southern California. Sandra Brauner was listed as the chair of San Fernando Valley. In organizing NWPC California, it started as NWPC Southern California Section; then to Greater Los Angeles on February 15, 1972. The first state NWPC steering committee was held in North Hollywood with Eadie Shade Riley from the San Fernando Valley chairing the meeting. So there was a group of women organized as the San Fernando Valley local NWPC as early as October 2, 1971 while the state was organizing and eventually listed the local chapters ( SFV, Westside, Pasadena, Metro) as voting locals.
